The EFEM ensures that wafers are transferred accurately, cleanly, and safely into process chambers such as photolithography, etching, deposition (CVD, PVD, ALD), and cleaning equipment. EFEMs are indispensable for maintaining a Class 1 or better cleanroom standard at the wafer interface, minimizing contamination, increasing yield, and enabling the automation required for high-volume manufacturing in advanced fabs.
Market demand for Equipment Front End Modules (EFEMs) remains fundamentally tied to Wafer Fab Equipment (WFE) spending and capital expenditure on 300mm semiconductor fabs. According to SEMI’s latest Mid-Year Total Semiconductor Equipment Forecast, global WFE sales reached a record approximately US$116.9 billion in 2025 and are projected to increase by 23.1% to US$143.9 billion in 2026, followed by growth of 21.8% in 2027 and 14.1% in 2028, bringing the market to approximately US$200 billion. Within the WFE segment, equipment spending for Foundry/Logic applications is forecast to increase by 18.9% to US$78.0 billion in 2026, while DRAM equipment sales are expected to rise by 39.0% to US$38.8 billion and NAND equipment sales by 30.7% to US$13.9 billion. AI accelerators, leading-edge Logic at the 2nm/GAA node, HBM-related advanced DRAM and higher-layer 3D NAND have therefore become the principal technology drivers of the current semiconductor equipment investment cycle.
The same trend is evident in 300mm fab investment. SEMI’s 2Q 2026 300mm Fab Outlook projects global 300mm front-end equipment spending to reach a record US$142 billion in 2026, representing approximately 25% year-on-year growth, followed by further increases of 11% in 2027, 6% in 2028 and 18% in 2029. Total installed 300mm capacity is also expected to continue expanding through the forecast period. China, Taiwan and Korea are expected to remain the three largest semiconductor equipment spending regions through 2028, while the Americas and other regions continue to benefit from semiconductor manufacturing regionalization and government-supported capacity expansion. For EFEM suppliers, each incremental installation of an etch, deposition, inspection/metrology, ion implantation or other FOUP-based process tool generally creates corresponding demand for load ports, atmospheric wafer-handling robots, aligners, mini-environments and control software. EFEM demand therefore exhibits a strong installed-equipment multiplier effect relative to WFE expansion.
The latest operating performance and capacity plans of major semiconductor equipment suppliers further confirm that AI-driven capital expenditure is propagating throughout the wafer-handling and factory-automation supply chain. ASML reported €9.3 billion in net sales in the second quarter of 2026 and raised its full-year 2026 revenue outlook to €43–45 billion. The company stated that sustained AI-related investment and continued progress in AI technologies are driving stronger demand for advanced Logic and Memory devices, leading customers to accelerate capacity expansion plans. ASML currently plans approximately 65 Low-NA EUV systems and 130 DUV immersion systems of annual capacity in 2026, with both capacities targeted to increase by approximately 30% in 2027. Accordingly, the combined expansion of AI/HPC-driven leading-edge Logic, HBM and advanced DRAM, together with the regional build-out of global 300mm manufacturing capacity, is expected to broaden the addressable demand base for EFEMs, load ports, atmospheric robots, aligners and GEM300-related automation software.
The next stage of EFEM technology development will be characterized not simply by higher throughput, but by simultaneous improvements in cleanliness, positioning accuracy, low-contact handling, intelligence and substrate adaptability. As semiconductor manufacturing advances toward High-NA EUV, GAA and sub-2nm logic technologies, increasingly stringent particle, backside-contamination, wafer-edge-contact, electrostatic and thermal-control requirements are being imposed on wafer-handling systems. These trends are accelerating the adoption of technologies such as edge-grip handling, low-contact or non-contact end effectors, N₂ purge, chemical filtration, ionization, backside-particle control and real-time wafer/carrier monitoring. More broadly, wafer-handling systems are evolving from mechanical transfer platforms into integrated contamination-control and data-enabled automation modules whose performance increasingly affects overlay, yield, equipment utilization and process stability. The underlying factory-automation architecture is also becoming more integrated: SEMI E84 defines enhanced carrier handoff interfaces, E87 addresses carrier management, E90 provides substrate tracking and E94 supports control-job management, while GEM300 provides the broader automation framework required for fully automated 300mm manufacturing.
At the same time, advanced packaging is expanding the traditional substrate boundary of EFEM systems beyond standard 300mm silicon wafers. New wafer-handling requirements increasingly include bonded and thinned wafers, highly warped wafers, glass substrates, tape frames and panel-format substrates used in wafer-level and panel-level advanced packaging. Brooks Automation, for example, has extended its advanced-packaging automation portfolio across wafer, panel and tape-frame formats and employs vision-based dynamic mapping to measure substrate condition and adapt handling in real time, thereby reducing misalignment, breakage and handling-related yield loss. This transition means that future EFEM competitiveness will increasingly be evaluated not only on robot repeatability and throughput, but also on warp/bow tolerance, thin-wafer compatibility, backside and edge-contact control, dynamic mapping, substrate identification, N₂ environmental control, SEMI-standard communication compatibility and multi-format substrate handling capability.
From a broader competitive perspective, these technology requirements are shifting EFEM differentiation from the standalone performance of robots and load ports toward system-level integration capability. Suppliers increasingly need to demonstrate not only high-speed, low-particle and high-repeatability wafer transfer, but also software interoperability with fab automation, equipment-level traceability, environmental control and compatibility with multiple substrate formats. As process complexity increases, the competitive threshold will therefore move toward integrated solutions combining high-performance mechatronics, contamination control, intelligent sensing, software integration and advanced-packaging adaptability. This evolution is expected to increase customer qualification requirements and strengthen the competitive position of suppliers capable of providing complete atmospheric wafer-handling platforms rather than individual hardware modules.
Wafer Sorters are atmospheric-side automation systems designed primarily for wafer reorganization, sorting, mapping, orientation alignment, wafer-ID reading and carrier reconfiguration between different FOUPs or cassettes. Although Sorters share many core modules with EFEMs—including load ports, atmospheric robots, aligners and controlled mini-environments—their principal function is different: EFEMs provide the interface between a carrier and a process tool, whereas Sorters primarily perform FOUP-to-FOUP or cassette-to-cassette wafer reconfiguration and logistics management. Modern 300mm Sorters have therefore evolved from relatively simple wafer-transfer stations into intelligent wafer-logistics nodes integrating high-speed transfer, wafer mapping, OCR/barcode/RFID identification, notch orientation, substrate tracking and automated interfaces to AMHS, OHT and stocker systems.
Future Sorter demand will be supported by three structural drivers. First, the expansion of AI/HBM, advanced Logic and global 300mm wafer capacity is increasing wafer starts and FOUP movements, which raises the importance of Sorters as buffering, reorganization and logistics-management nodes within highly automated fabs. Second, advanced packaging is expanding the required handling envelope from conventional silicon wafers toward thinned, bonded and warped wafers, glass substrates, tape frames and panel formats. Brooks’ advanced-packaging platform already includes high-speed substrate and die-tray sorting, wafer/panel/tape-frame handling and vision-based adaptive mapping, illustrating the broader industry migration from fixed-format wafer transfer toward multi-format substrate-adaptive handling.
Third, fully automated fabs increasingly require wafer-level traceability and real-time material-flow coordination. This is driving tighter integration of Sorters with SEMI E84, E87, E90 and E94, together with GEM/GEM300, Carrier ID, Wafer ID, MES and AMHS data. E87 supports carrier management, E90 standardizes substrate tracking and E94 addresses control-job management, providing the digital framework needed to track wafers from a source carrier through sorting and into a destination carrier.
Accordingly, the long-term technology roadmap for Wafer Sorters can be summarized as High Throughput + Low Particle + Backside-Safe Handling + Thin/Warped Wafer Compatibility + Automated Identification/Mapping + GEM300 Digital Integration. Compared with EFEMs, Sorters are less dependent on direct interfaces with process chambers, but place greater emphasis on logistics flexibility, multi-carrier compatibility, high-speed wafer reconfiguration and adaptive handling of complex advanced-packaging substrates. 調査レポートの納品までの日数はどの程度ですか?


在庫のあるものは速納となりますが、平均的には 3-4日と見て下さい。
但し、一部の調査レポートでは、発注を受けた段階で内容更新をして納品をする場合もあります。
発注をする前のお問合せをお願いします。


注文の手続きはどのようになっていますか?


1)お客様からの御問い合わせをいただきます。
2)見積書やサンプルの提示をいたします。
3)お客様指定、もしくは弊社の発注書をメール添付にて発送してください。
4)データリソース社からレポート発行元の調査会社へ納品手配します。
5) 調査会社からお客様へ納品されます。最近は、pdfにてのメール納品が大半です。


お支払方法の方法はどのようになっていますか?


納品と同時にデータリソース社よりお客様へ請求書(必要に応じて納品書も)を発送いたします。
お客様よりデータリソース社へ(通常は円払い)の御振り込みをお願いします。
請求書は、納品日の日付で発行しますので、翌月最終営業日までの当社指定口座への振込みをお願いします。振込み手数料は御社負担にてお願いします。
お客様の御支払い条件が60日以上の場合は御相談ください。
尚、初めてのお取引先や個人の場合、前払いをお願いすることもあります。ご了承のほど、お願いします。
