It is widely used in conditional knockout experiments, cell lineage tracing, and temporal gene regulation, particularly in genetically engineered animal models that carry loxP-flanked target genes. Cre mRNA can be delivered directly to cells via electroporation, lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), or other transfection reagents, making it a powerful and versatile tool in gene-editing and functional genomics research.
