Integrated data center energy management is the implementation of a unified intelligent building strategy to optimize both IT and facility resources. By coordinating investment in energy conservation measures, equipment upgrades, and the use of software and services, integrated data center energy management promises to deliver greater energy and operational efficiency improvements to the facility or campus that hosts the data center. The idea is to leverage resources that can meet the needs of both the data center and the larger facility.

The intelligent building is defined by the integration of software and services to maximize energy and operational efficiency across building systems—from heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) to lighting and plug loads. However, the data center has been widely omitted from the conversation. As building owners and relevant stakeholders invest in intelligent building solutions to deliver more comprehensive and insightful energy management, they are including onsite and enterprise data centers in their goals for holistic facility optimization. The utilization of intelligent building solutions and approaches across facility and IT systems will only increase over time. According to Navigant Research, the integrated data center is the next frontier for the intelligent buildings market.

This Navigant Research report assesses the future market for integrated data center energy management, with a focus on two segments: software and services and building equipment and systems. The study details the opportunity for energy management for integrated data centers and provides insight into key drivers, barriers, and other relevant market dynamics. North American Energy Management for Integrated Data Centers Revenue Is Expected to Reach $119.7 Million in 2024

The utilization of intelligent building solutions across facility and IT systems will only increase over time

July 8, 2016

A recent report from Navigant Research examines the market for integrated data center energy management, focusing on software and services and building equipment and systems, with global market forecasts through 2025.

The integrated data center energy management market is expected to emerge first within campus environments and large facilities with significant data center resources onsite. Customers responsible for these larger facility environments are expected to be the first movers in leveraging software and services and investing in building retrofits as a part of an integrated energy management strategy.  According to a recent report from Navigant Research, North American energy management for integrated data centers revenue is expected to reach $119.7 million in 2024.

“The promise of the intelligent building is centered on fully integrated energy management enabled by software, services, and advanced automation and control technologies,” says Casey Talon, principal research analyst with Navigant Research. “More specifically, the evolution of a traditional facility into this intelligent building framework relies on collaboration across customer teams.”

The vast majority of revenue associated with energy management for integrated data centers is expected to stem from customer investment in software and services, according to the report. This offering type is expected to account for approximately 90 percent of the market through the ten-year forecast period.

The report, Integrated Data Center Energy Management, assesses the future market for integrated data center energy management, with a focus on two segments: software and services and building equipment and systems. The study details the opportunity for energy management for integrated data centers and provides insight into key drivers, barriers, and other relevant market dynamics. Forecasts for the integrated data center energy management market in North America, segmented by offering type and sector, extend through 2025.
