この調査レポートは、オペレータの次世代データサービスの収益化を図るためのOSS/BSSの戦略について調査している。オペレータが新しいシステムを採用する際の選択の傾向や、実際の採用について分析している。

Despite the consolidation among vendors in the OSS/BSS sector, operators still have a wide choice of OSS/BSS-procurement strategies open to them. Developments that enable a significant reduction in the so-called integration tax will go a long way toward drawing operators toward multivendor procurement strategies and make end-to-end single-vendor offerings look less attractive.
Peter Dykes, Senior Analyst, Informa Telecoms & Media

Summary

Smart networks: Traffic-management implementation and procurement strategies looks at the options open to operators when procuring OSS/BSS in support of monetizing next-generation data services. The report surveys operators’ intentions and preferences when procuring new systems and looks at practical implementations.

Overview

The main driver behind rolling out new services is the monetization of data traffic, a challenge that operators have hitherto found difficult to meet. The main drivers for upgrading OSS/BSS, however, are the ability to control and monitor usage in real time, along with the scalability and speed required to support new services, features that have never been as important as they are now.

Operators require “smart” networks, a term this report attempts to define, along with exploring how they might be brought into being. The key to building smart networks is to have highly efficient and closely integrated OSS and BSS platforms, but the majority of network operators say current OSS/BSS platforms are inadequate for supporting next-generation data services.

Many operators are in the process of upgrading their systems with elements such as policy control, real-time charging and traffic-control functions. This report looks at operators’ procurement intentions as they prepare for future service and infrastructure rollouts and the strategies vendors are adopting to meet the needs of their customers.
