DisplayPort consists of three separate but related standards: the external DisplayPort interface, as well as two internal interfaces - embedded DisplayPort (eDP) and internal DisplayPort (iDP). 2010 and 2011 have seen external DisplayPort make substantial progress in the PC market, particularly notebook PCs. Both external DisplayPort and eDP adoption will increase significantly over the next few years due to Intel and AMD supporting those two specifications as replacements for VGA and low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) technologies, respectively.

eDP is an internal interface designed to connect the PC motherboard to the embedded display in a mobile PC. iDP is similar to eDP, but is designed to connect a digital television (DTV) system-on-chip to the DTV panel. Both eDP and iDP are designed to replace LVDS in their respective markets.

This PowerPoint report includes separate annual penetration forecasts through 2015 for each DisplayPort standard - external DisplayPort, eDP, and iDP, in fourteen separate applications within PCs, PC peripherals, consumer electronics, and communications, along with analysis supporting each forecast. Analysis of all DisplayPort specifications, as well as competing specifications, is also included.
