Touch screen technology for mobile devices has gone through a renaissance, largely due to the fascination surrounding iconic mobile phones such as Apple’s iPhone and the rise of media tablets such as the Apple iPad and Blackberry Playbook. Driven by a number of trends, including the growing desire for more intuitive interfaces and personalization options as device functionality increases, as well as decreasing ASPs for touch components and panels, the penetration of touch screens in mobile devices will continue to increase at varying rates, depending on device segment and touch and screen technology, as well as geographic region. This study addresses the use of touchscreen technologies in handsets, smartphones, e-readers, and ultra-mobile devices.
